measuring rates of enzyme catalyzed reactions

rate of reactions

One way you would find out if you were working with an enzyme would be determine if a particular substrate disapeared at a great rate of if a particular product appeared at a great rate after you added what you thought was an enzyme.

The rate can be defined as the amount of product formed in a period of time.

Or it can be defined as the amount of substrate used in a period of time.

The rate of a reaction can be used to determine the affinity of an enzyme for a substrate.
One way of determining the affinity of an enzyme for a particular substrate is by measuring the equilibrium constant of the enzyme reactions.
