glycolysis: glycolysis is the conversion of glucose to pyruvate. It occurs in the cytosol without the need for oxygen with the net production of 2 ATPs and 2 NADHs per molecule of glucose.
pyruvate: pyruvate is a three carbon sugar. It is a product of glycoslysis and is synthesized in the cytosol. Pyruvate enters the mitochondria and in the mitochondria is converted to acetyl CoA and CO2.
