Primary structure of proteins

One component of the primary structure of a protein is the sequence of amino acids that make up the protein

.

• In the example above there are four amino acids in this protein.

• The sequence of the amino acids is :

N-serine, valine, tyrosine, cysteine-C.

Another component of the primary structure is all the covalent bonds in the protein.

• In the example above, the protein is composed of two polypeptide chains.

• The chains are connected by a disulfide bond between the two polypeptide chains.
