Photosystem I and the production of NADPH

 

 

 

Light is absorbed by the Light Harvesting complex of PSI and transferred to the reaction center

 

 

 

Chlorophylla in the reaction center aborbs the light energy and electrons are elevated to a higher energy state


 

 

The energized electrons in Chla are transfered to an acceptor molecule and the Chla becomes oxidized

 


The electron captured by the acceptor is transfered to NADP to produce NADPH

 


The oxidized chlorophylla in the reaction center of PSI is reduced by electron from PSII. The electrons travel from PSII to PSI via the electron transport chain
