Reverse TYPE: Slow quadriga and basket-like car with three ears of grain LEGEND: CAESAR AVGVSTVS S(enatus) C(onsulto) |
Among Augustus' many public benefactions were several provisions of grain (see Res Gestae 15). More important than the specific instances of benefaction, however, was the projection of the Principate as a time of prosperity and the Princeps as providing the stability, peace, and conquest of Egypt that assured a steady supply of food for the city.
