STATEMENT ON
PLAGIARISM Prof. Hansen / Spring 2007
1. The CUNY policy
on academic integrity states that:
Plagiarism
is
the act of presenting another person’s ideas, research or writings as your own.
Internet
plagiarism includes submitting downloaded term papers or parts of term
papers, paraphrasing or copying information from the internet without citing
the source, and “cutting & pasting” from various sources without proper
attribution.
2. Some rules to follow to avoid plagiarism are:
·
Place
any direct quote from a source in quotation marks and note it in
parentheses or in a footnote.
·
When
paraphrasing the words of a source, supply a footnote or a note in
parentheses.
·
If
you use sources other than the texts assigned for the course, provide a bibliography
at the end of your paper. Include in
this bibliography all web sites which you used in writing your paper.
3. The
penalty for plagiarism is a grade of zero on the assignment and a total
reduction of 20% in the final course grade.
No rewrites or make-ups of plagiarized assignments are allowed.
4. All cases of plagiarism will be reported to
the Dean of Student Affairs and will become part of the student’s permanent
record.
