Listening to Chinese music is really helpful for young kids growing up. Every song has a really meaningful lyric. Since China is not an open-minded country, lyrics can not be written sexually, violently and racially. Basically, most Chinese songs’ melodies are the same and boring, but the lyrics are terrific and educated for every single Chinese song. A lot of Chinese parents try to force their kids to listen to Chinese music and understand the meaning of songs because it is the best way for their kids to grow up positively. I had done a survey for how Chinese music educates the youth in New York at Chinatown. About 92% of parents said that listening to Chinese music was good for their kids mentally and physically because there are no sexual, violent and racial things in it. Besides that, it really gives them a peaceful feeling.

Listening to Chinese music can teach Chinese if you pay attention the lyric. For instance, a friend of mine, Mike, who was born here barely speaks Chinese and hardly understands people speaking in Chinese. He speaks English all the time even with his parents. One day, he and I walked into a Chinese album store, there was a song playing and he curiously asked me why the store did not play English music. I said it was a Chinese record store and it is suppose to play Chinese songs. Besides that, I asked him if he ever paid attention to the Chinese lyrics. He said no and he would try to at that time. Even though it was hard for him to understand in the first place, but later on, he felt comfortable and said it was not that hard to understand Chinese and would buy several albums to learn Chinese.
