This tea is used for people of Yin confirmation suffering
from chills in the abdominal region and with "flushing up'' (headache,
shoulder stiffness, and sweating ). It is given to patients with low blood
pressure and weakened digestion. It can be used for the early stages of
colds, flu and stomach ache with chills. With the addition of six grams
of peony alba, this basic formula becomes more effective for abdominal
pains associated with diarrhea, disttension and chills. The use of this
by extreme Yin people should be followed after twenty minutes with a warm
bowl of brown rice.
The second formula for treating the common cold, fever,
flu and respiratory diseases is more suitable for Yang-excess syndrome.
It relies heavily on elimination through the diaphoretic (sweating) action
of ephadra, and is called Mao Huang Tang.
