Deer Antler (Lu rong)

PART USED: Cross section of the antler

ENERGY AND TASTE: Warm energy with sweet, pungent and salty taste.

SYSTEMS AFFECTED: Hormonal system

PROPERTIES: Tonic, Stimulant

The antler of the Sika red deer of Northern China is once of the most potent Yang tonics. It is a prized as expensive gingeng, and its price reflects the high regard the Chinese have for its tonic properties.

Generally, it is taken by itself as an alcoholic extract made by steeping one ounce in a half gallon of high proof alcohol ( I use cognac). This brew is taken in teaspoonful doses two or three times a day, mainly through the cold winter months by people over the age of forty. It is a powerful aphrodisiac for both men and women.

Dose: 3-5 grams
