Statement of Purpose:
The Environmental Studies Concentration is designed for students who are interested in a broad training in environmental science and policy. This degree prepares students for career opportunities in community activism, state and federal government regulatory agencies, journalism and technical writing; and graduate programs in environmental science, journalism, and law.
Description:
The program requires the students to take an introductory 3 credit course in
Environmental Studies (Environmental Studies 1)(to be taken no later than during the semester that follows their selection of a major) and a capstone seminar on Research Methods in Environmental Studies (Environmental Studies 75). The students will be required to take 7
credits from specified existing courses in Statistics, Mathematics and Computer and Information
Science; approximately 20 credits from laboratory courses in the Natural Sciences, 12 credits in
selected Social Sciences, including a course in Ethics; and elective courses in the Social
Sciences, Humanities, and Natural Sciences. The students will be exempted from core 5 and
from at least two out of the four science core courses ( core 7.1, 7.2, 8.1 and 8.2).
