| Cats (Felis domesticus) are the most popular of American pets. Despite several thousand years of domestication and controlled breeding, cats can readily revert to a wild state if abandoned. They are very closely related to other small to medium sized cats (e.g. mountain lion; ocelot; lynx; bobcat), and at least one, the European wildcat, may be the same species. |
