Lab #3: Raccoons Page1

Raccoons (Procyon lotor) are small predatory mammals, related to bears and pandas. They occur practically everywhere in the United States. They eat just about anything; can withstand extremes of climate; are not easily intimidated; and are very clever. These characteristics have brought them success even in the largest of American urban centers. Brooklynites living near Prospect Park, Marine Park, and Gateway National Park will have had encounters with them. Occassionally, raccoons have even been seen prowling the BC quadrangle at night.
