INVESTIGATING THE TOPOGRAPHY
OF
BROOKLYN AND QUEENS

Examine the contour map shown on the right. Using the skills you gained in your study of contours, determine the elevation of each of the ten locations marked by pink dots, using the following procedure:
  1. Press the pink button parked "P" and print out the map (printout #G-4).
  2. On your printout, label all the contours.
  3. Determine the range of possible elevations for each location and enter them in the table on the printout.
  4. Assume the actual elevation lies in the center of the range of possible elevations. For example, location (b) lies inside the 100 foot contour. Its actual elevation must be greater than 100' and less than 150'. The center of the range of possible elevations, therefore, is 125'.
  5. Enter the assumed actual elevation in the table on the printout.
  6. Now enter the assumed actual elevation in the form shown below.
  7. Click the 'Correct?' button to see if your answer is correct. If it isn't correct, review your work. If you are stuck, contact another student or your instructor.
  8. SAVE THE CORRECTED, COMPLETED PRINTOUT! YOU WILL NEED IT LATER!
