COURSE GRADE: The course grade is calculated as follows:
-
Assignments: 15%
- Exam I: 20%
- Exam II: 30%
- Final Exam: 35%
The final grade for the course will be based on a curve.
TOPICS COVERED ON EXAMS:
- EXAM I: Minerals, Parts 1 and 2; Maps, Parts 1, 2, 3 and 4
- EXAM II: NYC Landforms, Parts 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5
- FINAL EXAM: The exam covers all the term's work:
- All parts of Minerals, Maps, NYC Landforms, the 4th Dimension, and the Drowning of NY.
- Stress will be placed on those topics not covered in Exams I and II:
- the 4th Dimension (all Parts)
- the Drowning of NY (all Parts)
MISSED EXAMS:
- There will be no 'make-up exams'.
- If you are absent from Exam I or Exam II, a grade for the missed exam will be assigned from that part of the Final Exam that covers the same material.
- For example, suppose the distribution of questions on the Final Exam is as follows (all questions have equal value):
- Minerals + Maps Parts 1, 2 = 15 questions
- Maps Parts 3, 4 + NYC Landforms Parts 1, 2, 3 = 15 questions
- NYC Landforms Parts 4, 5 + The Drowning of NY = 20 questions
- Now assume you got 12 questions right in Part 'A' of the Final, 6 questions right in Part 'B', and 16 questions right in Part 'C'.
- If you missed Exam I, your grade for Exam I would be 80 (12/15 = 80%).
- If you missed Exam II, your grade for Exam II would be 40 (6/15 = 40%).
- Your grade for the Final Exam would be 68 (34/50 = 68%).
