NORTH SHORE, LAKE HURON, ONTARIO

A GLACIAL "DROPSTONE." A cobble of granite is embedded within a metamorphosed, layered sedimentary rock. Note how the layers have been compressed underneath the cobble. The cobble may have been transported and then released from a melting iceberg. Once relased, the cobble settled through the sea water and embedded itself in the sediment on the ocean floor.
