Historians
use visual sources as well as documents to understand the past. Look
again at the Library of Congress presentation on Types
of Sources to learn about visual sources. (You don't have to go
through their whole learning exercise, but
if you have time you'll
probably find it fun as well as useful.)
Take the
Images of Power
tour. Look at each image as a source of information about the
social hierarchy and economic life of the
Ancien Regime. Be sure you have worked through the Lecture
IV notes and the assigned TB pages. As you go through this exhibit:
1. Note which images might be useful for illustrating parts of the
Lecture IV notes.
In the Caucus item
for Virtual Session II write a few
sentences explaining two of your
choices.
2.
Note which images you would use for understanding at least two SB or Web
documents from the Ancien Regime.
In the Caucus
item write a few
sentences explaining your two choices and give a quotation from each
source you might use as a caption for the image.
Post
your first contribution before Friday night. Over the weekend read all the
other contributions and make at least one other post responding to your
colleagues' ideas to deepen our discussion of this material
or add some more ideas of your own before
Tuesday's class
meeting.
