THEME: In the
forty years after the Crucifixion, Jesus' followers in various
communities in Palestine and the eastern Mediterranean developed views
of the Christ of Faith which we encounter in the canonical Gospels
written between 70 C. E. and the end of the first century. This period,
from around 30 to about 70 is known as the Apostolic
Age. The period from 70 to the end of the century is the sub
apostolic period. These two periods were marked by:
| the spread of the Jesus Movement from Judea and Galilee to
Syria, Asia Minor, Greece, Egypt, and Italy, and the the
establishment of communities in major cities and towns of the Jewish
Diaspora. |
| conflict between early Jewish Christians and other Jews |
| conflict between Gentile Christians and Jewish Christians |
| writing of the Gospels, each one focusing on certain
images of the Christ of Faith |
| emergence of Church institutions distinct from Temple and
Synagogue |
