This assignment (1250-2500 words, or 5-10 pages long) combines the features of an
analytical essay and
a book report.
You will write separately on each of two or more books, then relate the books
you have read. You will need an introduction that presents the works you
have read and the ways in which they relate. You should follow the
introduction with a comparison of the works, and finish with a conclusion that
restates your main points of comparison.
To perform well on this paper, you must do three things: (1) write a clear
first paragraph containing a statement of position or purpose and the plan of
your paper; (2) show in your discussion of your books that you have performed
your reading thoroughly; and (3) show in your comparison of the two books your
ability to analyze.
There is no need to hand in a preliminary draft. It might be very
useful to submit in advance, however, the first paragraph and the topic
sentences for all subsequent paragraphs OR a detailed outline.
Generally, if these are in good form, the essay that emerges from them will be
very successful.
Keep in mind the guidelines of academic honesty.
