Custodial History
The papers of child psychiatrist Lauretta Bender (1897-1987) were deposited in the Brooklyn College Archives at three different times.  According to correspondence on record in the Archives, the papers were offered to Brooklyn College at the prompting of Dr. A.S. Eisenstadt of the Department of History at Brooklyn College.

The earliest accession, three cartons of materials consisting both of Bender's records and those of her first husband, psychiatrist Paul Schilder (1886-1940), was deposited on March 18, 1965.  In October 1969, on Bender's retirement from Creedmore State Hospital, she sent two cartons of additional materials to the Archives.  An additional box of materials was delivered to the library on October 9, 1974.
