Research
Foundation of CUNY
Their page offers a great
deal of information about getting grants as well as the the work of the
Research Foundation itself. One of the most useful features is InfoedSPIN/Genius,
" a comprehensive Internet-based resource for funding information."
The Sponsored Program Information Network (SPIN), gives information
on sponsors, including descriptions, contact names and phone numbers,
program summaries, and deadlines. InfoEd also offers
access to the Federal Register, Commerce Business Daily and other important
resources, as well as the GENIUS Faculty Expertise Profile System.
CUNY subscribes to this service so there on campus access across the university,
individual campus grant's offices can provide their faculty with a user
name and password for home access to the service.
The Research
Opportunities section has guides for both internal and external grant
opportunities as well as time saving basic information about facilities
and administrative (indirect cost recovery) rates, fringe benefit rates
and governmental districts.
Institutional
Research also provides good statistical
information about our student population and the campus community as a
whole. Their publication BC Fact Book 2000-2001 is found at the
Brooklyn College Publications
page.

National
Center for Education Statistics (NCES)
This is the motherlode

from states and foreign nations. Materials provide some local, and significant
state, regional and international data for comparison. Time series and
variables are not always consistent between reports or in the same series
over time. Reports are often available in several formats, but not all
reports are available electronically.
Encyclopedia
of ED Stats brings together
recent data from several sources published by NCES including:
The
Digest of Education Statistics, 1999 ed.
The
Condition of Education, 1999 ed.
Projections
of Education Statistics through 2008
These compendiums are searchable
via their table of contents, by subject, and through full text and table
title word searches. Retrospective data is also available from this site.
The data covers areas of interest such as: race, ethnicity, gender, economic
conditions. Data is reported on a national level in most instances with
little or no geographic breakdown.

Report
on Remediation in NY and the Nation (pdf file)
(adapted from the report)
At the request of the
Committee on Higher and Professional Education, the Office of Higher Education
(OHE) has prepared this report on remedial education in higher education.
The report presents definitions that set the framework for the body of
the report, looks at national and New York State information, and addresses
issues of quality and cost as they relate to remediation in higher education.
By design the report does not address any of the other many issues associated
with the current, complex debate about remediation in higher education.
