Quick Tips for Using CUNY+

CUNY+ can be accessed on the Internet at http://libraries.cuny.edu/lib-cpl.htm.
Click on CUNY+ Java Version. Note: the catalog takes a few minutes to load.

Once you are on the main CUNY+ screen type DPAC to use the catalog to look for books or other library materials.

DPAC shows records for all the CUNY schools.
Type SET CAT BC while in DPAC to look for materials in the Brooklyn College Library.
Type SET CAT ALL to return to the union catalog.

CUNYPLUS can be searched in five ways:

To search by type For example
AUTHOR a= last name, first name a=angelou maya
TITLE t= title of work t=bluest eye
SUBJECT s= any subject heading s=housing-economic aspects
KEYWORD k= any word or combination of words from the title, subject or author fields k=chemistry and chang
k=cuba and immigration
CALL NUMBER c= any call number c=PR6003.E282 W65x 1983

  • Title searches work best when you know the exact title of a book. Be sure not to use initial articles (the, a, an) when you type in a title.
For example: t=tempest not t=the tempest
  • Author searches are best when you don’t know the title of the book, or want to see all the books written by a particular author.
  • Keyword searches work best in two circumstances:
      1. If your book has a common title, such as “Chemistry,” then do a keyword search for the title and the author’s last name.
      2. If you are looking for books on a topic, but don’t have a particular book in mind, type in two or three key words combined with the word AND.
  • Subject searches work best if you know the Library of Congress Subject Heading (LCSH) for your topic. For more information about LCSH check out the LIBRARY OF CONGRESS CLASSIFICATION OUTLINE
