A Project Coordinator was hired and began
work on February 1, 2001.
-
Project supplies (laptop computer, flatbed
scanner, digital camera) were researched, selected, and ordered by the
Project Field Assistant.
-
The Project Field Assistant completed the
first draft of a bibliography to be used as a project resource and posted
on the project web page.
-
The Project Field Assistant completed a preliminary
list of organizations for the survey as well as a second list of organizations
for further research. Research into potential target groups and bibliographic
resources continues.
-
A project work plan for 2000-2001 was jointly
submitted by the Executive Director of METRO and the Project Director.
-
The Project Coordinator created a web site
which provides information about the project, the Caribbean-American community,
and archival resources. This site consists of twelve linked pages, and
will expand as the project progresses. It is expected to be posted on the
Brooklyn College Library web site and made available to the public in early
March.
-
The Project Coordinator finalized the list
of prospective members for the Project Advisory Committee. A package containing
descriptions of the Archives & Special Collections Division of Brooklyn
College, the Archival Survey Project, the responsibilities of the Project
Advisory Committee, and a sample Documentation Survey Form was created
and sent to the prospective members. The Project Field Assistant made all
needed preparations for this meeting (securing the meeting room, computer
access, refreshments, preparing directions for the attendees, parking,
campus security, and contacting attendees as needed).
-
The first meeting of the Project Advisory
Committee was held on Wednesday, February 28, 2001. Committee members,
project staff, and Brooklyn College Library Archives staff were introduced
to each other. The Project Director discussed the background of the project,
its scope, and its objectives. The Project Coordinator discussed the progress
to date, plans for the immediate future, and the role of the Project Advisory
Committee. The project web site was shown and discussed. Attendees received
a preliminary list of organizations to be surveyed, and a second list of
organizations for further research.
