Mood
The writer's attitude in a sentence is denoted by one
of three moods.
- A command
uses the imperative mood: Get me a drink
of water.
- A statement
of fact, then the indicative mood is used: She
got me a drink of water.
- The
subjunctive mood expresses wishes, recommendations, indirect
requests and speculations: If he were to get me a drink of
water, I would be grateful.
