Tense  
Verbs can tell time, that is, they tell what happens, happened, or will happen and when.
  The plant grows (happening in the present).

The plant grew (happened in the past).

The plant will grow ( will happen in the future).

Agreement 

Occasionally, it's difficult to know which form of the verb to use. Keep in mind that verbs must agree with their subject in person & number.  You will learn more about making verb agree with their referent in person and number in the unit "Achieving Agreement".
