The Purpose of Writing:
Writers must keep in mind their purpose for writing particular texts. They write either to inform or to persuade an audience to some point.
  • Informative writing, or writing that's intended to convey information, is called Expository Writing.
  • Persuasive writing involves the principle and tactics of Argumentation. Opinions are more likely to appear in writing that is meant to persuade rather than inform. Often opinions accompany factual information in an effort to seem valid.
