Fact vs.
Opinion:
It's very important
to be able to distinguish fact from opinion.
Fact is defined
as something that has been objectively verified.
Opinion is
defined as a belief held with confidence, but not sustained by positive
knowledge or proof.
HINT:
Oftentimes,
opinion masquerades as fact! Words and phrases like most, many, all,
every, could be, usually, seems to be, seldom, might be, could have
been, it's possible, it's plausible, in my opinion, most likely, seems,
appears, likely, etc... are qualifiers; that is, they attempt to
qualify or make valid a statement. The appearance of such qualifiers
in a passage are clues that the passage you are reading may be
an opinion.
