.  The Period 
This dish is always in demand with statements, mild commands, and indirect questions. 

 

A Period appears:  
  
  • At the end of Statements:  The college will be closed for the holiday.   
  • After Mild Commands:  Walk with me.   
  • Following Indirect Questions:  My friend asked me how I was doing. 
CHEF'S NOTES: An indirect question states what someone else has already asked. It does not relay the exact words that the person asking used:  
  • With Abbreviations:
Abbreviations represent words by using their shortened form:
 For example = Ex.  
Other examples of Abbr.: Jan. Fri. i.e. 7a.m. St. etc...

 

CHEF'S NOTESPeriods are not needed after some common abbreviations:  
NFL = National Football League  
SCA = The Society for Creative Anachronisms  
Other examples include: CIA, UNICEF, FBI
