PROJECT PROPOSAL – Abstract

MAJOR IN FOREIGN LANGUAGE TEACHING (‘CHINESE TEACHER’)

Brooklyn College offers majors in foreign language teaching in French, Italian, and Spanish. Most students majoring in French and Spanish are respectively from Haiti and the Spanish speaking Americas. A considerable number of Spanish majors is bi-cultural and bi-lingual, having deep historical roots in the Spanish speaking communities of New York.

The major in “Chinese Teacher’ (for short) will expand the professional opportunities for HS of Chinese and will respond to an explosive demand for Chinese language instruction at all level of the educational system. A shortage of qualified teachers of Chinese is reported all over the country. Moreover, demand is constantly increasing and there are not enough program to graduate the number of teachers needed.
