1) Language: list the odd expression that are clearly the result of transliteration from Italian. Include the various invocations to saints etc., Jesu, Maria etc. (once is enough, no need to repeat them.)

2) Geremio is quite a character in Give Us.  Summarize the obvious differences with the character in the novel. How do you respond to the moral compromise he makes with himself? Do you forgive him? Yes? No? Why?

3) Tenement introduces the crucial topics of Louis and faith in God. Is it important that Louis is Jewish? Or irrelevant?

4) My favorite character in this chapter is the Cripple. The description of her house induces creepy shivers. You can feel the filth stick to your skin as you read it. Even their accent is a mark of vulgarity and crudeness. You would expect (or at least I did) the Cripple to be a con-woman, cynical, callous and despicably devoted only to defrauding the weak.
