VIDEO LECTURE: BOCCACCIO, the DECAMERON, PASOLINI

 ;

Writing  1) Type your notes about the video lecture on Decameron (bullet list.)

Writing  2)   WARNING ABOUT THE FILM THE DECAMERON  (on Blackboard)

WRITE A STATEMENT acknowledging that YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED that the COMPLETE VERSION OF Decameron is rated R, with sexual content and scenes of nudity, especially (since it's still rather unusual) frontal male nudity; and that you are not required to screen the film (see below).

I edited the Decameron to remove objectionable content. Use this version if you are uncomfortable with the full version.
WARNING: BE PATIENT. At first download will be slow. Give it time to buffer. (I also uploaded it to Bb but the file jumps and skips.)

 DECAMERON CENSURED VERSION

Writing  3) Choose one of the stories and argue if the content matches my critical analysis of Pasolini's film. I welcome and encourage disagreements with my perspective, indeed I am eager to read good argument with a different point of view.

Writing  4) Pasolini himself is a character in the film, namely he plays the Master, the painter trained by Giotto. The Master leaves the third panel of the fresco's triptych incomplete. Is it some kind of message by Pasolini the author to the audience? What is the meaning of the very last sentence he pronounces in the film?
