The Columbus debate  [ex. use of word "Orient - Oriental"]

DANIELLE PRYOR

This is a very interesting question that you've posed. Looking at it from the larger, more global "what if" perspective is striking. Unfortunately,we have to accept the fact that Columbus was just the beginning of the wrong-doing in this country and claiming something or someone that we had no right to.
I personally believe that Columbus Day should not be a celebrated occasion and rather we need to take the steps to preserve the indigenous people that are left in this country and help provide them a better life as we have not done thus far.
Until we can accept on a united front that America has messed up quite a bit in the country's youth, we won't be able to truly better the circumstances for the masses.

Issue of representation of YOUR tribe (I wasn't clear.)

Sandreen:

When I used to work, there was a coworker who made a lot of comments that I now realize are microaggressions. At that time, I did not understand why I felt like they were weird things to say, they were topics that were “random”.
