ASSIGNMENT due FEB 4

Materials are in LECTURE 1

Task 1 required: scroll down and find Video 1 of  ITALIAN AMERICANS IN CARTOONS. Watch them carefully and take notes for yourself. Focus on the explanation and, MOST OF ALL, focus on your emotional reactions as you progress through video n. 1. No need to analyze them yet. JUST BE AWARE of how you react, as if you were describing symptoms. BE READY TO TALK ABOUT YOUR REACTIONS IN CLASS.

Task 2 required: Video 2, Italian Americans in Cartoons. Google "BLACK HAND" (and if you find references to Serbia before WWI, skip. Go to the sites that refer to the Italian American Black Hand. Watch the video and gather information about the Black Hand.

Task 3 optional : you are welcome to read and watch anything you want on this page. It won't hurt you, indeed, you may even find it interesting.

Task 4 required: however, you will be responsible for the SHORT FILM  "THE BLACK HAND" toward the bottom of the  page.
Watch "THE BLACK HAND" and take notes about the most obvious ITALIAN MARKERS (symbols etc.) I will ask you in class to discuss your findings.
