Transitivo
PRIMA DI PULIRE LA CUCINA, ho lavato i piatti = before I cleaned the kitchen I washed the dishes.

Intransitivo
PRIMA DI PARTIRE, ho salutato gli amici= before I left (leaving) I said goodbye to my friends.

Riflessivo
PRIMA DI UCCIDERSI, l'uomo ha scritto una lettera=  before killing himself, the man wrote a letter.

*uccidersi: notice that the pronoun SI is attached to the end of the infinitive

PRIMA DI LAVARMI, mi sono svestito =  before washing myself, I undressed myself (got undressed.)

*lavarmi: notice that the pronoun MI is attached to the end of the infinitive

DOPO CHE

Transitivo
Dopo che ho mangiato ho lavato i piatti = after I ate I washed the dishes

Gli studenti hanno capito la grammatica dopo che il professore ha spiegato le regole = the students understood the grammar after the professor explained the rules.

Intransitivo
Dopo che noi siamo partiti, loro sono andati a letto = after we left, they went to bed

Riflessivo
Siamo andati al bar dopo che ci siamo incontrati in piazza =  we went to the bar after we met in the square

WHEN THE SUBJECT OF THE TWO VERBS IS THE SAME PERSON we can use the past infinitive.

In this sentence the subject of MANGIARE and LAVARE is the same = IO

AVERE MANGIATO is INFINITO PASSATO

Infinito passato is formed with:
INFINITIVE OF AVERE + THE PAST PARTICIPLE OF THE VERB (MANGIARE = MANGIATO)

AVERE MANGIATO = having eaten
