QUESTION FORMATION

QUESTION FORMATION

In ENGLISH, to ask a question it is necessary to insert the verb "TO DO" (do you? does he? did she? etc)
***Exception:  TO BE

Statement:         YOU WORK HARD!                  => DO YOU WORK HARD?

IN ITALIAN WE DON'T ADD ANYTHING

TU LAVORI MOLTO!         =>  TU LAVORI MOLTO?

In Italian a simple question does not requires any changes in the sentence structure.

THE SUBJECT always PRECEDES THE VERB.

In writing, the only difference is the QUESTION MARK.

Orally, the difference is the intonation (technically, rising pitch at the end of the sentence.)

The intonation of the sentence will tell you whether it is a statement or a question.

Statement:   SANTA CLAUS EXISTS                     =>   BABBO NATALE ESISTE

Question:      DOES SANTA CLAUS EXIST?             =>   BABBO NATALE  ESISTE?
The structure "tu lavori molto," both as a statement and a question in reality is very flexible. This is the STANDARD ITALIAN statement/question, however, REGIONAL VARIATIONS will arrange the words differently. ALSO, the word position can change based on emphasis, humor/sarcasm, etc.

FORMAZIONE DELLE DOMANDE

Statement:    TU LAVORI

In Italian a simple question does not requires any changes in the sentence structure.
