Eros e Nomos for L. P. Guarda
allora?”) —
ed io io
sono certo che t’amo — [fra
non molto ti dirò delle pietre e
di Hegel, e della morte] Guarda
che posso solo raccontarti (sfidando
il calvario delle lettere ignorando
che il falso esiste) —
lo so, lo so, tu
hai già capito tutto — Guarda
che per puro caso imperversa la comunicazione*
Ti
sei strappato i tendini e l’animo all’asta cercando
e febrilmente chiare e pure argomentazioni all’epoca
— ricordi? — come filigrane illeggibili e
dappertutto smarcando i dogmi l’inesauribile
pure l’altro l’impenetrabile universo ogni
accumulare i cataloghi cognomi e date indirizzi
e provenienze e su tutto i colli nebbiosi di
sentimenti sensazioni sincere sensibilità filosofie
perfino! preparati alla tua summa chè
non mancano memorie tristezze alibi appoggi
indifferenze trasbordi e
l’amore versa
all’incontro finale qui
le parole sono pietre, e l’amore* |
*Take a look, there’s little left to see / (another version had it: / to pretend / another one, slyly, highlighted: / to portend) // Look here, there was so much and nothing to say / (I recall your most exacting image/ of the rock: / “what are we building on, then?”) // — and I, / I know I’m sure I love you — // [in a short while I’ll tell you everything about the rocks / and Hegel, and death] // Look, the only thing I can do is talk about you / (taking on the ordeal of the letter / unawares that what is false does exist) // — I know I know, / you understand everything perfectly — // Look, it’s by chance but communication is everywhere //
*You tore your tendons and your soul auctioned off / the feverish search for pure explanations clear for / the times — remember? — as illegible watermarks / and everywhere dribbling around dogmas / the inexhaustible supply of dogmas // Note that you never believed in angels / other than as a child’s musings, being-exercizing / the dream and imagination were then the same / indeed you often unfurled unsymmetrical kites / and recall the days when banners fluttered high / colors naively arranged, of course, I was little, / but a friend to the winds // Look, there is now still little time left / let that incorrigible heretic continue to caress you / with poems with metaphors of roads pointed toward my mind / let also the other impenetrable universe remain / for each day we meet people on the street / think! it’s a miracle, a showing, learning for free // Note that I am addressing history / and that you looked for, and invented, your tunes / often caressed even with cheeks and happiness / and do respond to the polyphony of the instruments / the embrace of the images of the two worlds come together //
*See that tension could refer to electricity / it was then a question of marionettes / now, instead, we walk everyday to the store / to work, watch it: there is little time left // Remember that the clouds take on endless shapes / and the colors in the sky only a painter a fool / would vainly attempt to rob us of / the roads unwind through the highs and lows / of the mountain clefts the vicissitudes / shopwindows trash cans polluting taxicabs // Recall that your story lives on but only in your glance / and that like memory writing too runs the constant risk of / awaking each day toilworn, colorless, misplaced // Listen to the asthmatic inflections of discourses dust / in the torrents rings of communication / sounds twice thrice removed make you wish / for the echoes, the third versions / what is double, the untruth of masks, listen / then to the disappearing of idols of exact abstract value / and the shrieking ancient engines jamming / listen now carefully to the whisper of the microphones / listen by now only to the cold light the distance the silence // Look, I must grant you a third way //
*Prepare the handbag the packages the receipts the perfume / — the body has more than seen / and the eyes have already felt — / stack up the catalogues the surnames the dates / addresses and provenances and above all the foggy hills / of sensations sentiments sincere sensibilities / even philosophies! prepare yourself for the summa / for there is no dearth of memories sadnesses alibis / support indifferences transfers / and love // ready the inkwell they used to say long ago / in this version comes word of the final drama / the impossible resolution of the act acting for itself / it is well know the audience often dislikes the music / (an instrument, a leit-motif, a lousy arrangement) / the audience asks to be entertained / brace yourself for the final encounter // here the words are stones, and love
