PROGRAM

REQUIREMENTS

  • The workshop will be conducted on WINDOWS platform PC’s. You should be familiar with WINDOWS and at least one word processing application such as WORD.
  • Familiarity with the basics of email and the Web (how to access and navigate) is required. Knowledge of MS INTERNET EXPLORER is preferred, Netscape OK.

9:00-10:30 Explorer, Netscape, Blackboard.
Web-based free email accounts (portable).
Email for the classroom.
Managing an email account efficiently.
Group Practicum: create email exercises and practice activities.
10:30-10:45 BREAK
10:45-12:30 Blackboard: course management, chat and bulletin boards.
Managing a chat-room. Creating a chat-room on free sites.
Bulletin Boards and asynchronous discussion groups.
Group Practicum: manage and participate in chat-group; set up and participate in bulletin board discussion.

AFTERNOON  
1:30-2.30 The Web: resources for teachers of foreign languages (courses, links, pedagogy, materials).
Web activities for students: searches (open, guided, scavenger hunt).
Creating Webpages of free sites using html authoring programs.
Group Practicum: create Web activities; create your own homepage
BREAK  
2.45-4.30  Learner autonomy and the Web: How to give control to the students.
Integrating Web resources and materials into your daily lesson plan.
Group Practicum: writing lesson plans that include Internet-based activities.
4.30-5.00 Reports on group projects.
