Animal Housing Facilities
Salt water animals
- State of the art cephalopod housing system with the capacity to hold 15 octopuses.
- Secondary Octopus housing system with the capability to hold 5 octopuses.
Fresh water animals
- Housing for 18-24 lobsters (spiny, slipper and clawed).
- Facilities to house 40 Axoltls.
- Individual housing for 24 fresh water fish.
- Housing for 20cm catfish.
All systems are fitted with filtration pumps. Automatic temperature controllers are also available for use if necessary.
Maintenance is done using protein skimmers, and regular monitoring of pH levels and general water quality is done.
Behavior Observation Tanks
- Various tank sizes ranging from 10-90 gallons with 3-D video capture capabilities.
- Dark flume facility. A 10-foot flume with a 10x3x2 foot working section in a sound/light proof booth capable of generating laminar flow up to 20 cm/s.
- Infrared behavioral monitoring from a remote console.
Computation Facilities
Simulation Workstations
- Dell Precision 370, 3.20 GHz Pentium 4, 2 GB RAM, 400 GB HDD.
- Dell Precision 330, 2.80 GHz Pentium 4, 2 GB RAM, 140 GB HDD.
These are used for the purpose of mathematical computation, modeling, and verification of structures using simulations.
Video Data Acquisition Workstations
- Dell Optiplex DX270, 2.6 GHz Pentium 4, 1 GB RAM, 110 GB HDD.
- Omni Tech OTC WXPA13, 2.6 GHz Pentium 4 2 GB RAM, 221 GB HDD.
- The Omni Tech station is also equipped with a 100Hz digital CCD camera.
- Both workstations use Universal Imaging’s Metamorph Software, used for video data acquisition, image processing and analysis.
- These computers are used for behavioral data logging, Laser Induced Fluorescence Flow Visualization (LIF) and Particle Image Velosymmetry (PIV).
Robots
- 4 - Rug Warrior Pro robots.
- 3 - Khepra Robots with Uninterrupted Power Supply.
- 2 – Bicsaar underwater autonomous chemical tracking robots.
