Teachers' Oath
Called Doomed
Kaminsky Bill May Die Without
Hearing Despite Protests
Of Various Groups
The Kaminsky Bill
to repeal the Ives Oath may die without the repealer having a chance
to debate it in either house of congress, according to a recent
announcement in the World-Telegram.
Teachers and other
groups from various sections of the state are supporting the repeal
measure while only Edward N. Scheiberling, departmental commander of
the American Legion of New York, and Joseph F. Dunn, president of the
Junior High School Association of New York City are opposing it
President ]ames E.
Conant of Harvard University criticized oaths like the Ives law,
calling them threats against freedom of speech and progressive
education.
