PRELIMINARY MINERAL INVESTIGATION

INSTRUCTIONS

This Preliminary Investigation (Minerals Part I) is designed to introduce you to minerals and to give you some practice in determining mineral properties. It will acquaint you with one important mineral property - HARDNESS - and show how it may be determined.


What you need to do:

In an orderly fashion:

  1. Read 'What is a Mineral? What is a Rock?'
  2. Determine your assigned minerals.
  3. Visit the Print and Form Shop and print out the required material.
  4. Read 'What is Hardness?'
  5. Do Hardness Exercises A, B, C.

For all of the above:

  • Read and understand the material.
  • Do the assigned tasks.
  • Check your answers using the answer-checking devices.

WHAT YOU HAVE TO SUBMIT:
There is nothing to submit.
