The Reads - Walter George, his wife Elinor Mathews Read, and their children Viola C. Read and Lloyd C. Read - lived in Flatbush, Brooklyn at the beginning of the twentieth century.
The Read Family Papers (1875-1948) include a certificate of U.S. citizenship for Walter George Read, 1894; family photos (including photos of houses, 1890's -1900's; scrapbook of miscellaneous clippings, 1908-1910; sketchbooks of Walter George Read, 1887; glass negatives; bills; a wedding album; a published pamphlet, "Breathings On a Sickbed" by Clement Light Read, 1876; family correspondence including a large amount from Lloyd Read to his parents, 1920's; and a travel diary describing a driving trip out West (California, Yellowstone National Park, Montana) that started in Montclair, New Jersey, the summer of 1926.
The Read Family Papers were donated to the Brooklyn College Library Special Collections Department by Professor Lindsay Perkins of the Brooklyn College Speech Department circa 1965.
