The Federal Interagency Council on Statistical Policy maintains this site to provide easy access to a full range of statistics and other information produced by more than 70 federal agencies for public use. Searchable by agency or program. Regional statistics are also available.

Covering 245 titles produced by Federal agencies this index provides a key to hard to find government information. It includes titles like the FBI Law Enforcement Bulletin, many Bureau of Justice Statistics publications, Civil Rights Journal,  EPA Journal, and the Social Security Bulletin among others. Citations only, no full text access. 

Search Full-Text GovDoc Internet Periodicals
Provides access to full-text Internet government periodicals. With over 100 titles still to be loaded this is a work in progress. Titles on the page can be searched by subject, SuDoc number or title.

Lexis-Nexis (Available on campus workstations or at home via CUNY's proxy server) 
By now Lexis-Nexis should be familiar to the Brooklyn College community. Its standard legal resources--Federal Case law, the US Code, the constitution, court rules, and an array of state legal resources are easy to find. However, hidden in the Accounting, Auditing and Tax section are the ERISA Labor Letters from the Department of Labor, the US Treasury regulations and a long run of the IRS Bulletin.

A massive compilation of government information on the Web arranged by subject and host site. Not all are free, and some sites may be limited to the host's affiliates, but it is an excellent way of identifying sources.

Congressional Research Service Reports
This unit of the Library of Congress prepares non-partisan topical reports for Congress. The reports are respected for their completeness and substance. There isn't a large selection here yet.  Selected reports are also available via the National Library for the Environment page.

Unified Agenda (Semiannual Regulatory Agenda)

University of Massachusetts
Laws are put into practice via regulations. Twice a year federal agencies are required to publish regulatory information they are developing or have recently completed. The Federal Register publishes this information in April and October in the Unified Agenda of Federal Regulatory and Deregulatory Actions. It is available from the Government Printing Office site with an index that assumes a detailed knowledge of regulatory material. The University of Massachusetts' site offers more straightforward indexing with tables of agencies and a subject searching option.

Biotechnology   Along with the EPA the USDA works to keep the food supply safe and monitors science and food production.
USDA Nutrient Database   Gives detailed nutritional information on thousands of foods.

Infoshare is another way of using Census data that allows users to apply it to geographich units (community boards, school districts, health districts) that are not 
availalble through the Census web site. It also includes NYC specific data sets not available elsewhere. 
ICPSR is a new resources for users prepared to do their own analysis of the statistics. This website includes Census and other raw data for downloading. Software for use in analysis is licensed by the college contact Dr. Howard Spivak AIT for more information about that at X5342.

Energy
Office of Science and Technical Information   Bills itself as the "World's Most Comprehensive Collection of Energy,  Science, and Technology Information." The site as 3 parts:  DOE Information Bridge  50,000+ searchable reports,  including hard to find gray literature. PubSci searches across a substantial body of peer reviewed  journal literature focussing  on the physical sciences and other disciplines of concern to the Department of Energy (DOE).  PrePRINT Network offers a  searchable gateway to preprint servers dealing with scientific and technical disciplines of concern to DOE. Among the disciplines included are physics, chemistry, portions of biology, environmental sciences and nuclear medicine.
Advisory Committee on Human Radiation Experiments  Important report on the use of human research subjects and radiation and medicine.
Environmental Protection Agency   Featured on their page are links to legal information, programs, local information sources, and children.

National Security Archive Homepage
An independent non-governmental research institute and library located at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. The Archive collects and publishes declassified documents acquired through the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Founded in 1985 NSA is the world's largest non-governmental library of declassified documents. Using the latest in computerized indexing technology they make their huge collection available to researchers and the public. Using the declassified materials as a base they add auxiliary sources both primary and secondary to make "comprehensive collections of documents on specific topics." Check out their electronic briefing books which pull together materials on single topic.

ROAD  Record of American Democracy 1984-1990
Located at Harvard this page offers a variety of aggregate data including  "election returns, socioeconomic summaries, and demographic measures of the American public at unusually low levels of geographic aggregation. "  Users can define maps using software on the site.

St. Martin's Press Documents Collection
Features an excellent sampling of primary sources from American history intended to be used in conjunction with their textbook, Politics of American Government, 2nd ed. Infoshare is another way of using Census data that allows users to apply it to geographich units (community boards, school districts, health districts) that are not 
availalble through the Census web site. It also includes NYC specific data sets not available elsewhere. 

ICPSR is a new resources for users prepared to do their own analysis of the statistics. This website includes Census and other raw data for downloading. Software for use in analysis is licensed by the college contact Dr. Howard Spivak AIT for more information about that at X5342.

Resources for  K-12 students and adults.  Provides an excellent guide to the resources on GPO access as well as information how the US government works and  highlights primary source materials available on GPO Access.

Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance
The Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance is a government wide list of federally funded programs, projects, services, and activities. It features assistance programs administered by the federal government. The online version is much more accessible than the enormous print version ever was.  There is also a guide to grant writing. 

Consumer.gov
Easy to use list of recalls, links to consumer information from other agencies, special sections on shopping from home, how to file a complaint,  and health care quality.

Consumer Action Handbook
(from the FCPC Web site) provides advice and consumer tips on: car repair, purchase, and leasing;  shopping from home; avoiding consumer and investment fraud; home improvement and financing; choosing and using credit cards wisely; and  much more. 
Also included is the Consumer Assistance Directory with thousands of names,  addresses, telephone numbers, Web sites and e-mail addresses for national consumer organizations, better business bureaus, corporations, trade associations, state and local consumer protection offices, state agencies, military consumer offices, and Federal agencies.

Consumer Product Safety Commission
Find out about recalls, report an unsafe product, visit their library for publications and injury statistics and if you have kids, they have a section specifically for them on safety. The site is also available in Spanish. 

disAbility.gov
The official site of the Presidential Taskforce on the Employment of Adults with Disabilities this site has an impressive array of links to information, services and resources from all parts of the government. Materials for children and youth are included.  And don't forget the original ADA page.

Stat-USA, a product of US Department of Commerce, has authoritative information from the federal government for the US business, economic and trade community and for anyone doing research in those areas. Databases are grouped by US and global data. Although sponsored by the Department of Commerce, data is not limited to information collected by it. BC Library Collection Information
Our holdings from 1976 to the present are searchable in CUNY+. Paper indices for older materials are available in the Center. Aside from a small collection of reference materials kept behind the Documents Desk the collection is shelved on open stacks. Some older materials have been stored off campus during the Library Renovation project, these materials will be retrieved upon request.

Documents come in a variety of formats: paper, microfiche, CD-ROMS and World Wide Web pages. Web access is available in the Documents room. Web printing is available for ten cents per page or users may download material if they wish. Microform reader/printers as well as photocopiers are available in the room. A selection of documents on CD-ROM can be mounted for use upon request.

Many paper or electronic materials may be borrowed by patrons with general library borrowing privileges. Ask at the Government Information Center about materials you wish to borrow materials.  The Documents Center can be reached at 951-5332.
