Library Instruction for Brooklyn College Classes.

 

The teaching librarians at the Brooklyn College Library invite all faculty to include a library skills compnent in their courses.

What Does Library Instruction Cover?

Library instruction will introduce the students in your courses to the services and resources of the library, including:

  • Basic and advanced searching in CUNY+
  • Searching for periodicals
  • Scholarly versus popular resources
  • Peer review
  • Keyword and Boolean searching
  • Controlled vocabulary
  • Proper citation formats
  • Plagiarism and ethical use of information
  • Web searching basics

All library instruction sessions can be tailored to focus on the resources and nature of scholarly communication in particular disciplines, and to the specific assignments that students need to complete.

How Does Library Instruction Work?

We encourage you to contact the librarian Subject Specialist for your field to arrange a library session. As an alternative, you may contact the Mariana Regalado or the reference assistant Laura Maltz at (718) 951-5340.

While we encourage you to come to the library for an entire session, it is also possible for a librarian to come to your classroom for a short or long session.

Please try to arrange the session at least two weeks in advance, as slots fill up fast.

What Do We Need to Know?

  • Preferred time and date for a session
  • Second choice time and date for a sessions
  • Course name and number
  • Number of students
  • The particular assignment students are working on
    and/or
  • Resources and skills you would particularly like to see addressed.
