TASK 2   

Take your time to think these matters through.

They turned to god for help. 

They turned to their fellow human beings for help (grocer and butcher.)

They turned to ORGANIZED RELIGION (Father John) for help.

They turned to the system for justice and help (Compensation Bureau.)

But the conclusion seems to be always the same: 

p. 42 "Already are we left alone and avoided  --for we have nothing to give-- except our need."

WRITING  A serious reflection on your state of mind after reading about:

1)  Geremio's death;

2) The episode with Father John

3) The compensation bureau.

Include precise details about the episodes. No grandiose statements, but a serious, granular reflection on some minute aspects of these moments. What were the details that grabbed you the most? What made such an impression that it is now part of your memories and, when the right stimulus will appear, the memory will re-emerge?
TASK 3      "ANNUNZIATA":  the book is not explicit about it but all clues point to her death of heartbreak when Paul rejects religion and faith. 
What is Paul's argument that so deeply upset Annunziata?
