NO WRITING ASSIGNMENT FOR ASSIGNMENT FEB 20

HERE, HOWEVER, ARE THE INSTRUCTIONS FOR A STANDARD ASSIGNMENT'S FORMAT.

  1. Create a new WORD file  -  if you have a Mac, change the extension  .pages into  .doc or docx.  (there are lots of youtube video that show you how to do it.

  2. Name the file as follows:    last-name.february20   (Example:   carasi.february20)
(Believe it or not it matters that you use a dot and not a dash between last name and date. If you want to know I will tell you why when we meet.)

  3. Attach the assignment to an email. For the email, use this subject:   assignment february 20
By using this simple subject, I can archive all your work in chronological order automatically. ALSO, it's important you write the word ASSIGNMENT: I have set up a filter that routes your work directly into the proper email subfolder, so that I don't have to chase around to find your submissions.

Task 1:

BOOKMARK  this PLAYLIST (my lectures)

BOOKMARK PLAYLIST of documentaries

Task 2:   watch my lectures on ROME (playlist)
Task 3:    EXAMPLE OF GOOD NOTE TAKING
Task 4:   FILM 1:     JULIUS CAESAR (Shakespeare)

1) Synthesize the major issues discussed in the dialogue between BRUTUS and CASSIUS. Do they have different agendas? What do they reveal about them?

2) Choose a character OTHER THAN BRUTUS and CASSIUS, and write about your EMOTIONAL response to him/her. Did you like h/h?

3) Did you hate h/h? What did you like/hate about h/h?

4) And finally your opinion. Is Anthony really and totally devoted to Caesar or is he being strategic, attempting to appeal to Caesar's followers?

Task 5:   FILM 2:   QUO VADIS

1:   Self-reflection. Go over your notes. Do you find a pattern? Are you most interested in the HISTORICAL aspects and what they reveal about different philosophies of life; OR, did you pay attention mostly to the plot?
What does that say about you, and about your priorities as an audience of one: does the emotional content come before the intellectual process? Or viceversa? (Please don't answer that they occur both at the same time: they don't.)

2:   Does the film reveal something new about Christianity that you were not aware of? (Of course, some of you were NOT raised as Christians, therefore, much of the information in the film may be completely new.)

3:  Short answers

a) Who is the Christian leader who flees Rome in fear of being persecuted?

b) Romans were great fans of what particular kind of sport/games?

c) Who is the emperor at the time of this story?

d) What title do people use to address him?
