Watch the first 5/10 minutes of GIVE US THIS DAY.

The opening credits mention that the film is based on Pietro Di Donato's Christ in Concrete.

It would have been more accurate to say that the film is VERY LOOSELY BASED on the novel.
From the opening scene, the two main characters, Geremio and Annunziata are quite different from the characters
in the novel. Moreover, the plot of the film has a few marginal similarities in a couple other minor
characters but not much else.

Despite the fact the film was shot about 25 years after the novel came out, it can be
seen as a PREQUEL, where the story PRECEDES the events in the book.
