NOUNS are words that designate  objects, persons, places, facts

NOUNS can be  CONCRETE or ABSTRACT.
Concrete when we experience them with our senses (body, house, tree, etc.)
Abstract when they are the product of thought (mind, beauty, justice, etc.)

 

ADJECTIVES are words that add information about a noun such as quality (good-bad.)

In Italian, a noun  is either  Masculine of Feminine. 

Generally:

  • nouns ending with - O are masculine
     

  • nouns ending with - A are feminine

    • UOMO ("man" ) is a MASCULINE noun

    • DONNA ("woman") is a FEMININE noun


     

    •

  • nouns ending with -E:  some masculine, some feminine

    • You must learn the nouns and their gender. The simplest way, is to memorize the noun and the article that goes with it. The article will reveal the GENDER.

    Masch: animale, colore, dottore, errore, nome

    Femm: arte, madre, notte, religione, televisione

     

Approximately 70% of nouns in Italian end with  -o   or  -a.

About 30% end with -e.
