New York Folklore Syllabus: Course Description

The work of this course consists of learning some basic concepts contained in the readings

and applying them to perceived examples of New York City folklore which will come up in class.

Each student will also

• give an oral report on an aspect of New York City folklore


• submit a written version of the oral report


• complete a field work assignment


• view a film class and report to a number of questions about it(midterm)


• write a final exam
