    Description of Courses

   A lively extracurricular program.

    ESL 0.03

Working with tutors in the ESL laboratory facilities to develop reading skills such as determining the main idea, identifying major details, writing summaries, answering essay questions, and reacting critically to text.

Prerequisite: Open only to ESL students who have passed the CWAT but not the CRAT.

    ESL 0.04

Working with tutors in the ESL laboratory facilities to develop the ability to write well-organized, well-developeessayses with college-level content, organizatioandng grammar.

Prerequisite: a grade of NC in ESL 15.2.

    ESL 0.1

Integrated reading and writing workshop for ESL students. Emphasis on rapid acquisition of fluency in reading and writing at the college level in coordination with the theme of a linked course. Summer semester.

Prerequisite: placement bAssessmentnt Test scores and permission.

    ESL 14

Increasing students ability in reading and writing at the high intermediate level of ESL through integrating these skills.

Prerequisite: assignment on the basis of the CUNAssessmentnt Test scores and permission.

    ESL 14.1

Designed to increase the writing ability at the high intermediate level of ESL, of students who have passed CUNY Reading Assessment Test at the Brooklyn College.

Prerequisite: assignment on the basis of the CUNY Assessment Test scores and permission.

    ESL 15

Increasing students&146; abilities in reading and writing at the advanced level of ESL through integrating these skills.

Prerequisite: assignment on the basis of the CUNY Assessment Test scores and permission.

    ESL 15.1

Increasing students’ abilities in writing at the advanced level of ESL.

Prerequisite: assignment on the basis of the CUNY Assessment Test scores and permission.

    ESL 15.2

For students who have taken ESL 15 or ESL 15.1 and have failed to pass the CUNY Writing Assessment Test. This course assesses and addresses the needs of students at the individual level.

Prerequisite: a grade of NC in ESL 15 or 15.1 and permission.

    ESL 17.1

Advanced reading for ESL students who have reached a minimal competence in writing but need additional work in reading english. Emphasis on comprehension and analysis of texts relevant to the humanities, sciences and social sciences. Focus on developing of vocabulary, study skills and critical thinking.

Prerequisite: Any one of the following: ESL 14, 14.1, 15, 15.1, or 15.2, together with a placement score of 4/4 or higher on the CWAT; programm permission.

    ESL 1.5

Special attention in developing basic skills in interpersonal communication, critical and analitic thinking, and speaking fluency in preporation for speech and listening requirements of regular college courses.

Prerequisite: permission of an ESL counseler.

    ESL 1.6

Continued emphasis on developing basic skills in interpersonal communication, critical and analitic thinking and speking fluency in preporation for regular college courses. Intensive drill and practice in the basic of standard English grammar and diction. Introductory library work in reserching and organizing informationfor oral presentation.

Prerequisite: permission of an ESL counselor.
