Conjugations
Italian verbs are
grouped in THREE different conjugations:

First conjugation:
verbs whose infinitive form ends in
-ARE

Second conjugation:
verbs whose infinite form ends in
-ERE
-
Third conjugation:
verbs whose infinitive form ends in
- IRE
Essere - Avere
"ESSERE"
[To Be] and "AVERE"
[To Have] have the additional function of
AUXILIARY VERBS,
that is, they are used to form compound tenses.
ESSERE is also used in passive constructions.
Irregular Verbs
Several verbs -- the so called "IRREGULAR
VERBS" do not follow the patterns of the standard
conjugations. Their forms must be memorized individually.
