ITALIAN 1030 LANGUAGE AND CULTURE

COURSE DESCRIPTION

At the end of the semester, students will be able to recognize approximately 1000 words and, when elicited, will produce up to 500 words.
Productive speaking ability will consist of short sentences with conjugated verbs (syntax.) Students will be able to interact with simple sentences about common topics and situations. They will also be able to start producing short narrations using parataxis and simple hypotaxis (primarily temporal and locative.)
Writing ability will allow students to produce descriptions and simple narrations with a minimum degree of complexity.
Grammar/syntax knowledge will expand to include understanding of hypothesis; objective clauses (subjunctive mood); passive construction and medial-reflexive forms.
